Our daughter is currently 11 years old, but our epilepsy experiences started at 8 months. We have since been on 9 medications and have completed 4 surgical studies. Each showing increased metabolic problems on the PET scan - thus complex seizures spreading to other parts of the brain. With this latest information that in fact there was an issue in both Temporal Lobes, our doctor politely suggested the MODIFIED ATKINS diet. She emphasized how one potato chip could throw the whole thing off, sat us up with an awesome dietician, sent us home with Keto strips, calcium and sugar-free vitamins. She is hopeful this will make a big difference in 2 weeks to one month. We are so appreciative of the optomism our doctor showed while descibing the diet. She said surgery is for localized seizures and it appears possibly ours aren't as localized as she originally thought. We are so thankful for the doctor's suggestion of a diet and the patients she showed to our 11 year old explain the importance of being quite rigid with the diet. She was able and willing to answer any and all questions we had - as well as keeps in touch by e-mail to monitor her progress. It is great to know we aren't the only ones making a diary of everything our child eats!
